Tesla is considering Fort Bend County for a $10.1 billion solar cell manufacturing facility near FM 1994 and FM 762 within Lamar CISD boundaries. 🏢

The proposed project could bring nearly 10,000 permanent jobs and 1,147 construction positions to the area. Lamar CISD will hold a public hearing and vote on the Texas JETI Act application Sept. 15.

A $10 million freestanding emergency center is moving forward in Manvel after City Council approved the first reading of a special use permit. 🚑

The facility along Highway 6 will be owned by South Shore ER LLC. City staff recommended approval with conditions including landscape buffers, privacy walls, and lighting restrictions to address concerns from neighboring residents. Council will consider the second and final reading at its Sept. 21 meeting.

The November election for Lone Star College System board of trustees has been canceled after three incumbents ran unopposed.

Trustees voted to certify Board Secretary Iesheia Wilson, Art Murillo and Jim Cain for their respective districts. The canceled election is expected to save the college system about $1.7 million that would have been paid to Harris County.

Harris County is moving forward with one of the largest property tax rate increases in recent history. 🏘️

Commissioners Court approved a 7.6% increase in a 3-2 vote, with County Judge Lina Hidalgo and Precinct 4 Commissioner Tom Ramsey opposing the rate. The increase will add about $193 to the average homeowner's tax bill.

With a projected shortfall of about $180 million, the court is expected to adopt its $3.09 billion budget at its next meeting before the new fiscal year begins Oct. 1.
